THE STORY:
The idea to use this song (which is comprised of very distinct tiny little "songlets") was half-way-jokingly suggested to me... then I realized what the "blue thing" was going to be, and after that there was no resisting the siren song of the, well, song. I don't think I've ever capped so much or from such a variety of episodes. Certainly never noticed how lacking the reception was on some of my tapes, apologies for the occassionally poor source, but there were just too many individual scenes to warrant going out of my way to procure pristine source for any one of them. By my rough count, about 40 episodes are represented-- however briefly! -- with around 65 separate scenes that had to be fastforwarded to...

I got off to a fast start way back in early March, and then stalled out once I'd exhuasted all the song snippets that immediately inspired me. Finally got a few more ideas and managed to squeeze out the rest. So, yes, some are more inspired and better edited than others. But if you don't like the one you're watching... wait 10 seconds, it'll change ;-)

Just a note, I've put the songs in CD order, though some people seem to like to shuffle them up. I first heard this album on tape, so it just seems very wrong to hear them in any order but the official one...

THE LYRICS:
Everything's catching on fire
Yes, everything's catching on fire

Fingertips
Fingertips

I hear the wind blow
I hear the wind blow
It seems to say: "Hello, Hello,
I'm the one who loves you so."

Hey now everybody now
Hey now everybody
Hey now every body now

Who's that standing out my window?

I found a new friend
underneath my pillow

Come on and wreck my car (repeat)

Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye? (repeat)

Please pass the milk, Please (repeat)

Leave me alone, leave me alone

Who's knocking on the wall?

All alone all alone
all by myself

What's that blue thing doing here?

Something grabbed ahold of my hand
I didn't know what had my hand
but that's when all my troubles began

I cannot understand you
I don't understand you
I don't understand the things you say
I can't understand a single word
I don't understand you
I just don't understand you
I cannot understand you
I don't understand you

I heard a sound, I turned around
I turned around to find the thing
that made the sound

Mysterious whisper (repeat)

The day that love came to play

I'm having a heart attack
I'm having a heart attack (repeat)

Fingertips
Fingertips

I walk along darkened corridors
and I walk along darkened corridors (repeat)

Hee! How fun. I was cracking up through the whole thing -- though the ending, with the "I walk alone, darkened corridors" was actually quite poignant and made me a little sad for Buffy. This was inspired. Thanks for sharing! :)

The comments above took the words right out of my mouth. This is the first vid I've seen by you, and I loved the whole thing. Kudos and biscuits for you!

Kimberly writes:

Oh my god! One of my new favorites! The "What's that blue thing doing here?" and "I'm having a heart attack" sections made me laugh so hard I cried. My eyes are still watering with glee. Thank you for sharing!

*giggles madly* This one rocked Vrya. Truly inspired. Truly. Just the concept had me giggling when I read your info on it, and once I downloaded it I actually fell off of my chair. Okay, granted it's an ottoman, and it's fairly easy to fall out of, but it's the point of it. ;-) Favorite "vidlets?" The blue thing, the "I turned around to see the thing that made the sound" clip, the car crashing one, the milk one, the "all alone" one, "the day that love came to play," the heart attack one...yeah, I loved 'em all. It made me happy. And okay, the "hit me in the eye" one made me sniffle. I still haven't gotten over that happening to Xander. :sniff:

Hi, Vrya. I love the fun of your 21 Vidlets. TMBG! Fingertips! Yay!

Loved it! I was laughing out loud through half of it. Plenty has been said before, but i do want add a comment on the "Who's that standing out my window?" vidlet. I love the editing, it's actually quite shocking...

Wendy writes:

I absolutely *love* 21 vidlets! It's one of the funniest BtVS vids I've ever seen. Your interpretations of each little music clip are very well-done. I think my favorite parts were the fire part and the milk part. Thank you so much for making this!

21 Vidlets rocks!!! You should do another.

Oh, squee! So so perfect. I saw Fingertips done live and had never heard it before, and this was a perfect second sight (if you will). I'm glad there was Tara - that was perfect - and it was all so so nice. You know the third-to- last frame says appollo, though, don't you?

This one makes me laugh out lout every. single. time. As soon as I saw you'd done this, I thought "oh my god, she HAS to have the Judge on "what's that blue thing doing here?" And you did! I'm so pleased...

Completely aside from the inherent hilarity of many of the snippets, you get great mileage out of upping the ante within a given snippet: from people catching on fire to the entire school blowing up, from random car crashes to the winnebago (oh god that's funny).... Oh, and the in- jokes, like all the call-to-arms shots (and some other group shots) from the credits set to "hey now everybody..."

Other favorite moments: "I found a new friend..." -- oh man, this should not be funny, but it so is. "Please pass the milk, please." Giles bonking Toth on the head! "The day that love came to play..." "I'm having a heart attack..." -- again, this shouldn't be funny, but the cheeseball synth in the background is weirdly Riley-appropriate in that '80s-ballad-without-irony kind of way... And, of course, all the creepy/funny fingertips shots.

This is the kind of vid that I might think of but would never be able to pull off. Thank you so much for making it -- it's definitely a "keep for when I need a good laugh" vid.

::giggling hysterically:: Best part? "What's that blue thing doing here?" & Riley footage to "I'm having a heart attack". This is funny. Hilariously funny. You did an amazing job. =)

. . . and now i can't listen to 'fingertips' without thinking of this. . .

Oh you are so wonderful for making this! I can tell how much thought you put into it. I can't thank you enough. I especially loved the "I Don't Understand You" part. You could just see Buffy thinking that in all the clips you chose. Also, "The Day That Love Came to Play" - SO FUNNY! It all went together so well. I had never thought of how many creepy fingertips are in Buffy. Also, it's like that whole "I Walk Alone" part was made for Buffy. She does do that only in like every episode! Thanks again. Keep makin' the great videos.

Absolutely marvellous, thank you so much How come there is a slight break in the sound between Mysterious whisper and The day that Love came to play PS get the authors of this to fix their code stat - you are currently begging for an SQL injection attack.
